Our Cement Pathways

Whether it's an installation project or a simple repair, we've got the tools, the experience, and the know how for the job. We'll work hard to ensure that everything is finished before your deadlines and make sure that you're happy with the end product. Here's a little bit more about the different services we offer below:

Installation

When you properly install a concrete sidewalk in Salt Lake, it not only offers your guests and customers easy access to the entryways of your property, but it can change the area's entire feel and even boost its value! Here at K&R, we make sure to do things right so that you get the most out of your cement.

We begin by first prepping the ground where the path will sit. We'll trace everything out and then grade the surrounding soil. We'll also dig down around eight to ten inches and fill this empty space with a layer of compacted gravel. This helps keep the slabs from cracking due to the cold or excess moisture.

We'll then install forms which act as a mold to any wet cement about to be poured. These are often made from wood, or plastic if the sidewalk is going to curve, attached to stakes that have been periodically driven into the ground. After these have been put into place and coated in a release agent, we'll pour and spread the concrete from corner to corner. The surface is then finished using a straight edge called a "scree" and a bullrake. Finally, we'll actually cover the entire surface in a plastic sheet. This helps it retain moisture as it cures for a harder, longer lasting finish. We generally suggest that you avoid walking on the cement path surrounding your SLC home or business for at least three to four days. Any questions? Concerns? Some stamped cement that looks like it's tile.
Starting from the edges, we stamp the cement surface until everything has been covered. Joints are then touched up and finished to ensure a nice, clean look. Finally, a sealant is applied. This will help keep your stamped surface shining over the years to come!

Stamped Cement Walkways

A stamped concrete sidewalk in Salt Lake City not only looks great, but it can actually add a lot of grip or texture to its surface and last longer than unfinished, unsealed cement.

Here at K&R, we start this process once the slabs have cured enough to support themselves once the forms have been removed. We want to ensure that the surface is wet enough to be molded, but strong enough that it doesn't crumble or break when we use our stamps. Before starting, we'll spread a dust compound that adds color to project and keeps our tools from sticking as we work.
How long does it last?
You should expect a stamped cement walkway in SLC Utah to last you for at least 30 years. This number can vary, but for maximum longevity we suggest you reseal the surface every so often.
Can I Do It Myself?
The short answer is yes. The long answer is no. Stamping concrete is a complex project that takes knowledge and experience. You need to know when the cement is ready to be textured, which compound to lay down beforehand, where to start with your stamps, get all of that done before everything has dried too much, and then touch up the seams before sealing it. This process can be a lot for most people, and we'd suggest hiring a pro such as ourselves. You can reach our crews at 801-704-7835 and we'll help you get started!
